Slyvester "Smitty" Smith works as a security guard at the Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs. Recently a travelling photography exhibit came to the FAC showing William Gottlieb's photographs from the "Golden Age of Jazz." Smitty curiously watched the workers hang the pictures and relived the glory days when he would rub elbows with many of the musicians pictured. He knew almost every one of the musicians pictured and remembers catching rides with them when they would travel between Pueblo and Denver to see their shows. We had a long chat and before I shot the portrait we went around the entire exhibit he told me about each one. Although our visit wasn't all that long, I consider him one of the most interesting and friendly people I have met here in The Springs so far.
