walk away

So here's the story- Family waiting with a trailer at a crossing. Arms come up, family pulls out, arms come right back down in between trailer and Suburban trapping them. Either separate the trailer and drive across or ditch both. They look down the track about a mile and a train is coming and they are on the tracks with two kids in the back seat. The parents quickly grab the two kids and leave the car. The mother said to me, "If we'd had three kids, we wouldn't have made it." I don't usually post spot-news type stuff, but this was just pretty amazing that they all made it out.

Every parent's nightmare! So glad it had a happy ending.

After the reading the story on Deseret News, I realize what a horrifying situation that must have been. One doesn't expect another train to come along right after one before it. It was probably very startling. I am so glad the family got out of the vehicle! They definitely made the right choice. Material possessions are nothing compared to the lives of your kids. Even though there was state-of-the-art equipment on those tracks, I wonder if some other system could be developed when there are multiple tracks next to each other.

Gosh... great quote from the mom: "if we had three kids..." not often you can use that line!
