She Said Yes

It was my first trip to the Grand Canyon and the ring was burning a hole in my pocket since before Christmas. Full moon, freezing air and my tiny iPod touch playing a familiar,sweet and nearly inaudible song. I asked if she was surprised. Between body shaking laughs she nodded, some pure honesty slipped past my teeth as I said, "me too."

We sat on a rock ledge between the gaping depth and the lonely clapboard cabins where uninterested deer munched on cold grass. I couldn't help but see a giant metaphor for two people. Backs to a lonely place while facing the complex void as fear is twisted so tightly across excitement, it feels as if any risk has to be worth it. "Geez Micha, we're like adults now..." she says as the canyon swallows every unnecessary sound. Suddenly something that didn't exist 10 seconds earlier, suddenly becomes something I don't want to live without.

Long story short, the Cricket and I are getting married.
