Akaguma / Henefer

Yuko Akaguma and her two sons arrived early this week from their Tokyo suburb. Akira, their husband and father sent his family to live with a Utah family in rural Henefer while he cares for his parents in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. He was a foreign exchange student in the tiny mountain town for over two years in the 80's. Check the story HERE. Having traveled around and met people here and there, seeing families on opposite sides of the globe who foster over their relationships is impressive. I hung out with them the other day and while they were having Mexican food and soft-serv for the first time, I thought about how I can't count how many great experiences I've had with people while underway or when living in different places, and we always plan to stay in touch, but unfortunately this seems to be the exception to the rule. It just seemed so right, and an example of why we have friends that border on family - to help one another. Good vibes...
