2011 Ms. Basketball / Brittney Martin

I tried a few different things with the Ms. Basketball portraits this year, and then kinda screwed up and didn't listen to myself. After talking with the reporter about her and her style of play, it seemed like something that was more subdued and honest would be more fitting than super glossy lit with really bright color. At the time I wasn't really convinced enough myself if I liked it so I didn't want to show it to an editor and then have to fight for it, if I wasn't on board myself....kinda kicking myself now, because I think it would have been a nice change for readers. Dunno if they'd have let me get away with a black and white photo on the sports cover though. Below are the two I submitted instead. Lemme know what you think if you feel like it.

Gonna go with the first one. And, it's the most flattering for her too.

you should have gone with the first for sure. Of course, if you weren't sure you liked it than there is no point in fighting for it.

Your gut was right on. I vote the first one too.

Yep. First one. She actually looks feminine in that one.

Yep. All of the above. Far and away the B&W is the best.

I hate to pour salt and lemon juice in the open wound of regret, but since you asked...yes, the first one was by far the best.

By the way, I LOVE my Ezra. I really enjoyed reading the story. The pictures were really neat...great shots of a hard-to-shoot place. Having lived in China, I know what it is like to try and get those shots. Anyway, thank you so much!
